Oral health as a building block for health: a concept analysis. Nurses in the United States are increasingly interested in oral health promotion. The concept analysis addressed the importance of incorporating oral health promotion into nursing care focused on self-care and health in older adults. This analysis describes the characteristics of oral health promotion, which may limit self-care and health in older adults. The literature was identified using the following key terms: oral health promotion, aging, geriatrics, older adults, and nursing. Extensive search of MEDLINE and CINAHL databases yielded 210 articles. Three interrelated studies, which included articles identified by three critical reviews also were included in this analysis. These articles provided the initial data to support this concept analysis. Characteristics were determined from analysis of the concepts and definitions identified in the literature. The context, antecedents, and consequences of oral health promotion are described. Analysis of literature revealed that oral health promotion is a basic concept; as a building block, it provides a foundation for self-care and health in older adults.I get a lot of emails these days about the plight of the Midwest, the Midwest that produces most of our food, Midwest that has had a terrible time in the world market. I have over the years received more than my share, and I want to share with you what I have learned over the years, but mainly with the benefit to the Midwest farmer: 1. The global food, most food, is grown and produced in the developing world. It is produced in places where it gets no winter and no direct sunlight! 2. The American Midwest has historically, and continues, to be a food producer for the world. 3. In a developing world it is difficult to grow enough food, so it is easy for them to import. 4. When a developing world gets rich enough to be able to import food, they continue to import, thus, the world supplies of food increase. 5. In the world’s food producer the world’s food supplies increase—thus the food supply also increases for the developing world. 6. In a rich world, it becomes an issue whether the world food supply is adequate, is too much, or too little. In the world food producing countries either they stop producing, or they produce less and so that less food is available for the world to buy, thus, the world’s food supplies decrease. 7. d2c66b5586
