Under the NIH Policy on the Inclusion of Women in Clinical Research, of September 29, 1999, women are included in all NIH-supported clinical research, unless an exception is authorized in writing by the NIH. For further information about applicable policies and procedures, as well as for guidance about conducting clinical research, please see the policy and procedures for clinical research: http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/policy/women/index.htm .
The NIH is committed to promoting and facilitating clinical research in women. This includes supporting women in clinical research to ensure that they are included in clinical research as fully as possible. NIH encourages clinical researchers to examine the potential impact of baseline characteristics of women and men, including sex, as well as other conceptual factors, on study outcomes. To support NIH's Mission, the NIH Office of Extramural Research (OER) is updating its priorities, review requirements, and application instructions. The OER will be posting this notice and associated documents on its website as they are available. Any changes will be announced in the Federal Register. d2c66b5586
