In April 2013, during a free concert in Boston, Jim was forced to cancel the concert because he was forced to go on a medical leave due to serious health problems, that were caused by his daily chaotic lifestyle (heavy smoking & drinking). He was later diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), for which he was admitted to the hospital in June 2013 (receiving 24-hour oxygen), and a series of surgeries were performed to save his life.
It is important to understand that doctors take their patients professional and personal responsibilities extremely seriously. This includes the patients' family members. If doctors are given the responsibility to care for patients, then doctors should be willing to work to provide the best advice they can; taking into account factors such as the patients' personal, medical and social life. A doctor's job is to take responsibility for their decisions.
Whether a doctor will tell a patient to take time off or not is something I cannot answer. However, it is important to note that if a doctor is given the task to care for his patient, it is his moral and ethical responsibility to do so. d2c66b5586
