In either case it appears that Aristodemus was the first to make the journey to Delphi. And as he was the first to pass through Nemea he became the first to see the visit of the god to the place, then the burial site of the first king, Nemean Apollo, and also of the first king of Athens, Cecrops I. This Aristodemus was apparently the same person as the son of Dardanus, the first king of the tribe called by the Greeks Titans.
Being aware of this, Tisamenus the son of Orestes came to Megalopolis to make war on the Messenians, and to establish Aristodemus as king. However on his way he was defeated, though only by a narrow margin, and after this he returned to Sparta. Aristodemus then marched on the enemy, but when he came to the pass of Ares he learned that Tisamenus was not dead, and that he was not far from Megalopolis.
